#1 Killer in All Diseases is Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular diseases are number one killer in all diseases. According to statistic in 2004 around 59million people died because of cardiovascular diseases. These are the diseases of heart and vessels. By understanding risk factors, causes and preventive measures for cardiovascular diseases can be controlled and the survival rate can be increased.
Out of all risk factors of cardiovascular diseases the major risk factor is smoking that is a preventable risk. Smoking causes injury to the vessels and eventually makes it hard and predisposes to atherosclerosis (narrowing of lumen). By stopping smoking, this injury can be reversed or the progression of injury can be halted. Smoking is also responsible for chronic obstructive diseases and lung cancer. Up to 80% of lung cancer is because of smoking in developing countries. Cancer it self is able to affect the heart or the chemotherapy or radiotherapy of cancer can lead to cardiotoxicity and some of them are irreversible.
Aging is other risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. With increase in age there is increase in incidence of cardiovascular diseases like hypertension, angina, or arteritis. That is because of loss of elasticity of vessels and increase in peripheral resistance that contributes to hypertension (increased blood pressure). On the other side, hypertension can lead to angina and eventually heart failure.
Other risk factors can be alcohol, obesity, hereditary, diabetes, physical inactivity and increase blood cholesterol. However, these risk factors are able to be controlled and some are preventable like smoking, alcohol and physical inactivity.
Simple measures like regular exercise, healthy diet and avoiding smoking can reduce incidences of cardiovascular diseases up to 70% - 80% and hence decreases the number of premature deaths due to cardiovascular diseases.
According to statistic of WHO for cardiovascular diseases 7.2 million deaths occurred due to coronary heart disease and 5.7 million deaths due to cerebrovascular diseases.
Top ten causes of death world wide, according to WHO report, include coronary heart diseases, stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases, lower respiratory tract infections, perinatal conditions, chronic ostructive pulmonary disease, diarrheal diseases, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, lung cancers and road traffic accidents.
Different strategies are being developed to control the growth of top ten causes of death and to make different efforts according to the need of those who are suffering from diseases mentioned above. In order to prevent these diseases, it is advised to cooperate with doctors and medical officers so that in future these diseases can be controlled and the survival rate can be increased.
